Frequently Asked Questions

Sill-Rite sills are made out of cellular PVC. This is the same quality vinyl that modern window frames and made of. This durable vinyl will hold up to exterior conditions (although our sills are designed for interior use). Sill‑Rite sills will not chip, peel, rot, or yellow.

Premium Sills feature finished ends—the decorative profile wraps around the ends of the sill. Premium Sills are available in various sizes to fit most window openings.

Standard Sills are butt cut—no finished ends. Standard Sills are available in several lengths and are to be cut to fit openings during installation.

Although Sill-Rite sills are only available in white, they can be painted to match any decor.

Sill-Rite sills are pre-finished and do not require painting but can be painted. For best results, prepare the surface by lightly sanding with fine sandpaper. Clean the sill thoroughly and apply an acrylic latex primer. Finish with 100% acrylic latex paint.

Although Sill-Rite sills are durable enough to withstand outdoor elements, they are designed specifically for interior use.

Sill-Rite Premium sills come in depths of 2-8 inches (in one-inch increments) and 9-11 inches with an extension kit. The front profile of the sill extends an additional inch. If you would like your sill to protrude further out from the opening than the one inch for the front profile, simply purchase a deeper sill.

Sill-Rite Premium sills are sized to be four to six inches wider than typical window widths. Keep in mind that drywall added to the jambs decreases the size of the window opening. For instance, a four-foot-wide window will often have a finished opening width of 46-47 inches. See Premium Sills measuring instructions for details.

Sill-Rite Standard sills are meant to be cut flush to the width of the window opening and not extend past the jamb. See Standard Sills measuring instructions for details.

No. Since protection from moisture is only critical for the sill, organic materials such as wood or MDF can be used for jambs and casing. However, if you want to use a vinyl product for these areas, PVC trim boards are available from other companies such as Fypon or Azek.

Sill-Rite sills are best cut with typical wood finishing blades.

Sill-Rite sills are made of the same high-quality vinyl used for many window frames and will not yellow.

Sill-Rite sills can be used with existing horizontal blinds. In most cases,
Sill‑Rite sills need to be installed before shutters and vertical blinds. However, existing vertical blinds can be cut shorter to accommodate the 3/8-inch thickness of Sill‑Rite sills.

In most cases, Sill-Rite sills can be installed directly on top of existing marble sills. If the thickness of the existing sill is 5/8" or less, the finished profile of the Sill‑Rite sill will completely cover the marble.

When measuring for Premium Sills, the Sill‑Rite sill must be at least 1-inch deeper than the existing marble sill and at least 2-inches longer.

Sill-Rite sills are easy to clean and require almost no maintenance. Make sure any cleaning product you use is safe for use on vinyl products. Test the cleaning product on an inconspicuous location of the sill, such as underneath, out of site location. Check out our cleaning instructions for more details.

For tough scuffs and stains, lightly sand with 300 grit sandpaper. As with testing cleaning products, test on an inconspicuous location.

Sill-Rite sills are covered by a limited 10‑year warranty.
